I love working with animals and children for their honesty and sincerity. They are exactly who they are and bring out the best in all of us. They make us laugh, feel happy and needed. Every parent and caretaker has these feelings. I bottle these emotions for my clients by capturing the details, grace and energy in a portrait. I seek out physical and personality details that you’ll instantly recognize. These images connect you for ever with the feelings you experience today.

Eight years ago I became a professional portrait photographer by chance. We had just moved to Oregon and had adopted our puppy Maggie. On one of our walks I noticed this very elderly dog walking gingerly through her yard. I felt a strong desire to document her with a photograph so her caretakers would have a portrait to remember her by. Before I had a chance to do so, she had died. I was devastated and set out to find aging dog models to honor them and bring joy to their owners. I wasn’t just interested in the handsome dogs; I also wanted those with missing teeth, a grizzled smile and thinning hair. I’ve had hundreds in front of my camera. All perfectly imperfect and each one deeply loved by their humans. Soon I was featured in the local newspaper and then O, the Oprah Magazine featured my work. It then became clear that my future was in portrait photography. Since then I have developed the same passion for horse portraiture.

My clients may not know it consciously, but I think in essence people hire me is because they want something to mark and capture their love. To celebrate this special time and honor their animals for all the good they have brought to their lives.

Dogs and horses are far from the easiest of subjects, but they suit my calm and patient personality pefectly. What makes my work stand out is my drive to capture what my clients feel in their heart. Before I photograph any subject, I’ve already imagined the smiles of my clients when they see the final product on their wall.

My portraits are definitely influenced by my North European roots – simplicity and minimalism, muted colors and clean design. Your final product is an object of art meant to be enjoyed for a lifetime.

Read below to learn how this works. If you have more questions, do not hesitate to contact me.

• Begin with the end in mind

You know you want wonderful images of your most precious beloved but not sure what you’re going to do with them. No problem. Let’s start with the end in mind. During our ‘getting to know each other’ talk we’ll go over the different options available to you. If you want wall art, I’d like to learn about your decorating style and where and how you’d like to display your new portraits.

• The consult

We’ll first talk on the phone/skype or in person. We’ll talk about your motivation and vision for the photo session, and I can get the scoop on the subject and your relationship together. What makes your bond so special and what has changed in your life since the first time you laid eyes on each other. Understanding the dynamics and the bond you have allows me to capture your beloved’s beauty and personality. All your questions will be answered, plus you’ll have a full understanding of the investment.

• The shoot

Your beloved is the star of the show and everything is geared to make the experience pleasant for everyone. I’ve been a professional photographer for 9 years. I’ve encountered all kinds of personalities and mastered all sorts of challenges. My models do not always cooperate, but there is nothing to worry about. I am blessed with the patience of an angel, so there is no need to get frustrated when things don’t go as easy as you’d wish. I’m never in a hurry and continue to photograph until I am certain to have a good amount of portraits that show the grace, joy and beauty of your pet/child in all his/her uniqueness. Guaranteed.

• The view and order

Soon after the shoot we will meet again to review the best images, make your choice and place your order. I will guide you every step of the way using your goals from the consultation to achieve your vision for your portraits.

• Delivery and installation

Your order will be ready about 4-6 weeks after your order has been placed. Whenever possible, I like to deliver the portraits to you and am happy to install the frames at your home. This saves you time, an extra trip, the heavy lifting and the hanging. It’s part of the service so you can start enjoying the final result immediately.

welcome to the studio

Here is a peek into my bright and comfortable studio. It is located in West Linn, just south of Portland, OR.  The studio is set up to create modern clean white as well as more dramatic dark images.  My dog Maggie makes everyone (human + furry) feel welcome and hangs out with us when ever possible.
